How to eliminate captive cursor in Linux server

I'm using Fusion 4 with a Ubuntu 10.04 server guest OS (command line only)

Is there any way of eliminating the captive cursor? I installed VMWare Tools, but it didn't seem to help. In fact the tools didn't change a thing... Thanks.
