I have a question regarding what the best practise is for storage to a Virtual Machine.
We have several ESX 5 host and all are connected with NFS to a SAN (netapp). On the virtual machine, for example windows SQL servers, we created with software Iscsi storage for the databases (log en database storage) directly on the SAN, other aggr. The disadvances for this is that we need to install and admin (upgrade) the software, snapdrive on the windows system for the connection to the storage (LUN).
I have hear from others that some did it with RDW and some even made new datastores with ISCSI (software or hardware). I now wonder wat is the best practise to use and what are the advantages and disadvantages of these solutions.
