Unitrends does not support backing up VM's on ESXi hosts with the free Hypervisor license (see Support for ESxi Free edition)
Afaik only Trilead can do this, although with limited features (see (http://www.trilead.com/Documents/4.1/VMExplorer_Factsheet_en.pdf)
