I have successfully setup ESXi 5.1 and install guest OS Win 7 ultimate x64 after following the steps given in http://communities.vmware.com/message/2177388#2177388. The mobo is GA-Z77x-D3H.
The next challenge is to setup 3 displays (not PC, I cannot find a monitor icon) which attached to the host like in this diagram, for the guest OSes. I intend to use Radeon HD 6950 or HD 7850 which I was told can use eyefinity to extend upto 3 displays for certain games (not very important to me) but at least I need 3 displays for different VMs. Is this setup possible ? Or I have to abandon this idea and back to use Win 7 as the base OS and run VMWare workstation to achieve this setup (I assume workstation 8 can achieve this) ?
I have tried to VMDP the onboard VGA, but ESXi was hang half way after reboot.
I really like the features and functions of ESXi i.e. secure, small foot print, etc. But if I cannot use it to setup 3 (or more) displays, I would have no choice to abandon this for the moment.
