Re: vSphere Replication

Hi Arjanhs,

Currently we replicate and backup with Veeam. I must say it is very robust in it's feature set. We have yet to expose all functionality, but at the core, backups and replication work as advertised.

With regards to replication, it is easily compared to a scheduled task in windows. You have your "job" configured and scheduled with the VMs you want to replicate. Veeam is robust enough, that you can break the link and leave Prod online and separate from DR with the caveat that your replication proxy VM (Veeam Brains) and DB is hosted at your DR site. You can then use the failover feature with Veeam. The replica will power on for your drill testing and then off when you are done. Re-enable the link and replication jobs will continue on their next scheduled time.
