VMDirectPath & linux guests' video display

i have a fedora17 VM. it is currently making use of the vmware virtual VGA adapter.

the host has a radeon GPU that i passed through to the linux guest. the linux guest sees both adapters, virtual & ATI, according to `lspci`.
00:0f.0 VGA compatible controller: VMware SVGA II Adapter
13:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Cedar PRO [Radeon HD 5450]
i need to know how to configure this linux guest to use the passed  through radeon adapter and not the vmware virtual VGA adapter.

there is no xorg.conf and the settings->display app wasn't much help.
i did execute Xorg -configure which produced a xorg.conf, though it will need some serious tweaking. is there a 'easier way?
where can i tell this linux guest to use a different video adapter ?

thx

*i posted this on a fedora forum too, but no response from that forum
