A final note regarding the deletion of the 'bad' VMs when that time comes. If you want to be extra safe you can use the datastore browser and download the .vmx file for each 'bad' VM before deleting the 'bad' VM entirely. This could be handy if you need to recall a previous MAC address (i.e. you later find that an app is no longer working due to MAC licensing). The .vmx would have this information as well as details about disks it connected to etc. It's peace of mind anyway before deleting the 'bad' VM in lieue of it's -rescue counterpart.
PS - When you are ready to remove the 'bad' VM and all it's disks (ensure the rescue is powered on and pingable, and all desired backups have been obtained (i.e. .vmx, vmware.log, etc.) then right click the bad vm and perform a 'delete from disk' (as opposed to 'remove from inventory').
