Re: How do you update a single vm host with update manager

Wow its a whole new thing to learn... I'm lost at the first step, getting and configuring vma.  Never heard of it.  I guess these updates won't go on as soon as I hoped.. have to learn a whole new system.

So I downloaded this vma 4.0 package from that link and now where do I deploy it?  I have 3 options.

At the remote office on an ESXi 4.0 server.

At the remote office on the ESXi 4.1 server I am currently trying to update.

At the headquarters, thinking it would talk to the ESXi 4.1 server I want to update over the WAN.

Once this is installed, then what... download every single file here: http://www.vmware.com/patchmgr/findPatch.portal (Select ESXi 4.1, and CRITICAL)

Then SCP those 10 zip files to the server I want to update and proceed with the instructions at the link you posted?

VUM would of been much easier, but I guess you can't do that if its running on a VM that will have to be powered off in order for the host to enter maintenance mode to take the updates.

Thanks for your help.
