Linux appliance sees only 3 GB RAM (4 GB configured) on 4.1 but all 4 GB when running on 5.1

Hi,

I run a Linux based appliance (32 bit kernel, Linux XXX 2.6.9-89.0.25.EL.P1smp #1 SMP Mon May 10 11:13:23 PDT 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux) on vSphere 4.1 (ESXi installed on VMWare host(. VM is configured with 4 GB RAM but it reports it sees only 3 GB (3107960k). I know that quesions of this type have been frequently asked in the past but I think here it is a bit different: The same appliance (same kernel, same configuration) on another vCenter with version 5.1, here the full 4 GB RAM are shown. So I can safely assume the guest OS itself doens't have any problem with the 4 GB. Was there any change between 4.1 and 5.1 that could be related here?

Cheers,

Dominik
