Before doing anything backup your User Data including Virtual Machines and if there is a way to create Recovery Media on either DVD or USB Thumb Drive that would be able to restore to factory condition or recovery scenarios then I'd suggest doing so. Then if the contents of the larger drive is less then the size of the smaller drive I'd use Norton Ghost or similar to transfer the contents as I see no need to reinstall anything under this scenario.
