I haven't seen this particular issue broached before and only VMware can authoritatively speak to it being a bug.
Since you have a Ghost Image I'd suggest clean-building the Host from the Windows 7 Install DVD to see if all appears as it should. You can always restore the Ghost Image however if I had this issue I'd want to know whether or not a clean-build of the Host OS only, including appropriate hardware drivers not installed by the OS install, shows no issues at all with the hardware tree as shown in Windows Device Manager. The I'd decide whether I want to continue to build out on a known good base build or revert to a Ghost Image and try to rectify any issues regardless what is as fault. Which BTW I don't think it is a VMware issue however I don't have enough info to say it isn't either.
